The American Civil War in History and Memory
This field school is a study of the American Civil War in the Eastern Theater of Operations and how the war has been memorialized and remembered since 1865. Students will study the major battles and military experience; civilians and the intersection of policy, the public and battle; the role of slavery and the conduct of the war; and efforts to commemorate and interpret the war. Prepare to hike the battlefields, tour the museums, and reflect on the places that tell the stories of one of the most significant events in American history.
