Privacy Practices for the Academic Development Centre Web Site

The Academic Development Centre’s Web site does not automatically gather any personal information from you, such as your name, telephone number, or e-mail address. This information is only acquired if you provide it voluntarily, by contacting us via e-mail, or through an online form.

Any personal information you do provide to us is subject to the Canadian Government's Personal Information Protection and Electronics Document Act, and the Alberta Government’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act. This means that, at the point of collection, you will be informed that your personal information is being collected, the purpose for which it is being collected, and that you have a right of access to the collected information.

Some ADC Web pages may collect more information than is described here and will have additional information management policies. Please read these additional privacy policies where applicable.

Automatically collected Internet information – traffic data

The Academic Development Centre logs some page requests to our server. These Web logs capture computer request information, navigation or click-through information. None of this technical information collected by the ADC will identify who you are.

Other information collected by our Web site host, Mount Royal College, may identify you by your domain name or IP address depending on the naming standards provided by your own Internet service provider.

Typical technical information that is collected by a host server may include the following:

  1. The Internet domain and IP address from which you access our Web site,
  2. The type of browser and operating system used to access our site,
  3. Screen resolution of your monitor,
  4. The date and time you access our site,
  5. The pages you visit, and
  6. If you linked to the Mount Royal College Web site from another Web location, the URL address of that Web site.

Any visitor information collected by the Academic Development Centre is not disclosed to anyone except appropriate ADC staff who requires the information for legitimate business purposes such as responding to a request.

Cookies

A cookie is a small piece of text information that is sent to your Internet browser when you access a Web site. Your browser will return this cookie information to the domain where the cookie originated. While we do not regularly use “cookies” to track how our visitors use the ADC Web site, when cookies are used, they may be used to help you fill in forms or to present specific and dynamically created information you have requested. The length of time that the cookie will reside on your machine will depend upon the specific set-up of the particular pages you visit.

None of the ADC Web site generated cookies are used to gather or submit any personal information on users visiting our Web pages.

If you are concerned about the use of cookies, refer to the help information in your browser software for information on how to disable the cookies feature. If you wish to delete cookies from your machine, consult your browser’s help files for instructions on how to do so.

Privacy and links to other sites

The ADC Web site contains links to other sites. We are not responsible for the content and the privacy practices of these other Web sites.

We encourage you to review each site's privacy policy and make your own decisions about the accuracy, reliability, and correctness of the material and information found at these sites.

Information collected in e-mails and Web forms

If you choose to provide us with personal information, such as in an e-mail or by filling out a Web page form and submitting it to us through our Web site, we will use that information to respond to your message and to help us get the information you have requested.

The Academic Development Centre does not store or save any personal information for marketing purposes or distribute any information collected to external organizations. You will not receive unsolicited e-mail or other communications from The Academic Development Centre.

Any Web form or e-mail messages sent via the Internet can be intercepted. A message is potentially viewable through any Internet service provider through which it passes. If you are concerned about sending your personal information to us via the Internet, please choose another method such as the telephone, fax or regular mail.

Message boards

Visitors who register for any publicly accessible community services the Academic Development Centre might provide, such as a message board service, may be required to provide us with a name, password and a working e-mail address. We will only use this information to set up and manage your account.

The Academic Development Centre does not distribute any community service membership list and we will not send you any e-mail messages at the address you provide, except for occasional announcements relating to the community service or as needed to resolve issues that may arise with your community service account.

The e-mail address you provide with the Academic Development Centre may be posted on any public message boards - if and when you post comments there, but you are free at any time to substitute an alternate e-mail address if you need to keep the one you initially registered private.

Participants in our community services are expected to comply with the rules governing the area, but we cannot control a third parties’ use of information you may choose to provide in such a public forum.

Recorded personal information

Whenever your personal information is provided to us and enters our records system, it is collected in compliance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronics Document Act, and section 33 (c) of Alberta’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act.

The Academic Development Centre collects, creates and maintains certain information for the purposes of admission, registration and other activities directly related to our educational training programs and services. The information collected is only kept for the length of time necessary to fulfill the purpose for which it was collected.
