Your career path in 140 character or less...
Working to create shared community value by building projects between nonprofits and industry. Community investment geek.
What three words describe your student experience at MRU?
Hands-on, collaborative, engaging.
What is MRU best kept secret?
Their personal trainers! Such great value as a student and they really kick your butt into shape.
Describe how you have made a difference in your community after graduating from MRU?
The community project that I’m most proud of is the recent launch of a grant program that gives nonprofits access to funding for training, consulting services and skills-based volunteerism. Feedback from nonprofits has been that this is a much needed program and I can’t wait to see the difference that we’re about to make in building the capacity of nonprofits in Calgary. They are the ones delivering on social missions in our community, so I’m proud that this program, through Propellus, is supporting them.
What is the best piece of advice you received at MRU that helped prepare you for your career?
Learning is not confined to the classroom. It’s just one piece of your MRU experience. Join a club. Do an international exchange. Participate in the co-op program or find your own internship. MRU are very supportive in helping students get a well-rounded experience beyond the classroom. As a result, I was able to jumpstart my career in a way that I couldn’t have imagined.
What is your claim to fame?
Hopefully this is a future claim to fame... but I’ve written a book! I am working diligently on getting it published, but even if that doesn’t happen, I wrote a book that I’m very proud of.
