Mount Royal will give its students access to powerful learning tools by creating six thematic Centres of Excellence in the following areas of academic priority. Each centre, comprised of a research institute and an endowed chair, will mark the intersection of community need, student learning, and the advancement of knowledge — a collaboration among faculty and students in an open and exploratory environment. It will inspire new ideas, prompt innovation, and take student learning and faculty expertise to even higher levels.

Institutes are hubs of scholarly activity that spur exciting new discoveries and ignite a passion for learning in students and faculty alike. First, our faculty members contribute to, and access, the latest research, thus adding more breadth to their teaching. Students, too, actively participate in research, thus enhancing their classroom learning. The research is shared collaboratively within Mount Royal and out in the greater community, thus benefiting our community as a whole.
Endowed chairs
Endowed chairs at Mount Royal — notable instructors, scholars, researchers, and leaders in particular fields from across North America — are the “spark plugs” for each centre of excellence.
These renowned scholars bring leadership, expertise, and inspiration to faculty, enhancing their teaching thanks to unique perspectives the chairs have garnered outside the university. They impact students who are studying within their field of expertise, adding more depth to their educational experience at Mount Royal. Their vision and insight will set Mount Royal apart and offer outstanding educational opportunities for students.
You can support innovation in education through your gift to the new Centres of Excellence at Mount Royal. Find out how you can make a contribution to Mount Royal’s unique learning environment.
