A place to learn, connect, live and grow, Mount Royal University wants to be a great neighbour. This means making sure our campus is safe, well maintained and reflects community input. Dating back to 1911, the Conservatory has grown into the largest teaching institution of its kind in Canada. More than 5,500 students participate in programs, ranging from early childhood music and speech arts to training of emerging artists. The Conservatory provides access to quality music programs for all ages in popular music, jazz and classical genres.
Experienced and high-quality instructors introduce children to music or speech arts for the first time and prepare advanced performers for the world stage. As well, international artists come to the Conservatory to share their talents with students.
The Conservatory is located in the new Taylor Centre for the Performing Arts, which includes 43 soundproofed practice studios, an early childhood suite, six ensemble rehearsal rooms, a percussion room and five masterclass rooms.
The Bella Concert Hall, also inside the Centre, draws artists from around the world. This beautiful space has state-of-the art acoustics, where all audience members are close to performers. Community members are invited to come and enjoy events, concerts and performances.
Mount Royal offers practical, engaging and flexible programs for all ages, interests and capabilities. Choose from more than 1,000 courses, 100 certificate and diploma programs, and eight programs resulting in a professional designation. This learning can happen in the classroom, online, in the workplace and in the community. With an average of 20 students per class, you receive individual attention.
If you want to get the training you need for your next job, advance your workplace learning and connect with industry professionals, we work with 25 industry partners across many sectors.
Corporate training helps organizations build capacity, strengthen culture and improve the bottom line. Training can be customized to your values and objectives.
Continuing Education also offers courses as a pathway into a university degree. Language courses enhance skills for your academic studies, career, travel and personal development. Children and youth can participate in the MRUKids summer camp. The Transitional Vocational Program offers a variety of programs for adults with developmental disabilities.
Each year about 170 student-athletes achieve their dreams of playing the highest level of Canadian university sport at Mount Royal University. The Cougars compete in men’s and women’s basketball, hockey, soccer and volleyball as members of the Canada West University Athletic Association (CWUAA) and U SPORTS.
It is not an easy journey for an athlete to compete at this level of sport. The path to reach our rosters takes hard work, discipline, determination and leadership. Cougars’ student-athletes are expected to excel in their sport, in the classroom and in our community.

Community members are invited to enjoy high-calibre games at reasonable prices. As well, Cougars host special events, including a salute to veterans, numerous community fundraisers and the epic Crowchild Classic.
Event and Theatre Services
Mount Royal’s campus has a wide array of facilities and an experienced staff to host your next corporate or community event, conference, trade show or performance. A commitment to providing exceptional client service has allowed Event and Theatre Services to become one of the most trusted events organizations in Calgary.
Facilities available for rent include spaces in the stunning new Taylor Centre for the Performing Arts, which includes the 773-seat Bella Concert Hall, unique meeting rooms, many performing spaces and an array of classrooms — all with the latest acoustic technology.
The Roderick Mah Centre for Continuous Learning has successfully hosted a wide array of events, with a hall to fit up to 600 people, plus numerous meeting and training rooms, computer labs and a large boardroom. The Leacock and Wright Theatres also are amazing theatre and performance spaces.
Friendly, efficient and knowledgeable staff will ensure your event or performance is a success. They will walk you through the decision-making process and take care of the details. Professional event coordinators provide their expertise in venue consultation, event decor, audiovisual support, conference management, entertainment coordination, menu planning and much more.
Mount Royal has a comprehensive inter-disciplinary injury rehabilitation and wellness clinic that promotes good physical and mental health.
Community members can choose from a number of services, including chiropractic care, physiotherapy, massage and athletic therapy, acupuncture and custom-built orthotics. Specialty therapies include an AlterG anti-gravity treadmill, occupational therapy and extracorpeal shock wave therapy.
All of these services are provided by a team of nearly 20 practitioners, all of whom are experienced and certified. This permits you to choose from a range of people, depending on your needs and preferences.
The clinic offers third-party direct billing for Alberta Blue Cross, Great-West Life and Sun Life. Optimal Therapy is proud to treat members of the Canadian Forces and Veterans Affairs. Motor vehicle accident patients are welcome and can be direct billed to the insurance company for massage, chiropractic care and physiotherapy.
Optimal Therapy is open year-round, with appointments available from Monday through to Saturday. There is complimentary parking for community members, as well as special pricing for seniors and youth.
Looking to maintain a healthy lifestyle, challenge yourself or just blow off some steam? Recreation has something for everyone.
We offer a variety of facilities and modern equipment, including gyms, fitness studios, squash courts, outdoor tennis courts, climbing wall, salt water pool, an indoor track and so much more. Facility rentals are available for a wide variety of events.
Community members can choose from dozens of fitness classes, including yoga, spin and barre. Looking to get certified? We also offer fitness, first aid and aquatic certification.
Do you need some extra motivation? Our experienced certified personal trainers will build an exercise plan to meet your fitness goals and keep you motivated along the way.
You can decide what works best for you to come and get active as we offer memberships, 10-visit passes or day passes.
Our members enjoy preferred pricing on activities and personal training, in addition to lock and towel service, no start-up fees and various free equipment rentals.
Mount Royal offers quality and affordable accommodations for a wide variety of guests and visitors throughout the year. The Residences are located close to downtown, near the highway exit to the Rocky Mountains and close to shopping. Public transportation is available on campus. As a guest, you also receive preferred rates and access to a variety of facilities on campus.
Conference guests, school and sports groups, as well as visitors to Calgary, enjoy comfort and convenience in fully furnished one-, two- and four-bedroom apartments and townhouse units. Each private bedroom is individually keyed for privacy and security, with a single bed and study desk. Common areas in apartments and townhouses include a TV, couch, kitchen table and chairs. Kitchens have all the appliances and there is wired and wireless Internet access.
The Residence Hotel offers beautifully upgraded suites, with queen-sized beds, free Wi-Fi, 32” flat-screen cable TVs, Keurig coffee makers and private ensuite washrooms. Parking is free, and there are on-site, card-operated laundry machines and daily housekeeping.
From mid-May to mid-August, Residence has summer accommodations, with a wide range of options, different services and both short- and long-term rates.
The Mount Royal campus offers a variety of retail services that are open to the community.
There are several options for food and beverages throughout the campus. The Table is a popular food market that caters to every taste preference with house-made fare and wholesome ingredients. Tim Hortons, Starbucks, Jugo Juice and Garrison Cafe & Bistro are also available on campus.

Archives and Special Collections
The Mount Royal University Archives and Special Collections preserves collections related to University history and the research interests of students, faculty and the community. Visitors are welcome to consult our unique holdings of historical records, photographs, rare books, maps and other material.
Archives and Special Collections features a comfortable reading room, climate-controlled storage and a conservation area with expert staff ready to assist you.
