Mount Royal officially launches Alberta’s only independent crime lab
(CALGARY – June 5, 2009) The Justice Studies department at Mount Royal will be celebrating the opening of Alberta’s only independent crime lab on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at 10 a.m.
Mount Royal’s Criminal Justice Research Lab is designed to analyze and protect highly sensitive research data. Faculty in Justice Studies will use the Lab to research a host of criminal/social justice themes, like youth at risk, crime prevention initiatives, gang related research, geographic and environmental crime, gender issues, social development issues and restorative justice, among others.
The Lab will also serve as a learning and training facility for interested community partners.
“While Mount Royal has generously funded the creation and establishment of the Lab we are currently seeking research opportunities and affiliations to support the continued growth of the Lab,” says Justice Studies Chair, John Winterdyk.
The Lab was created to improve the dissemination of information and provide direction for criminal justice related policy.
Guests include:
• Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Alison Redford
• Superintendent Peter Clarke, RCMP Southern Alberta District
• Inspector Gerry Francois, Calgary Police Service, Chief Crowfoot Learning Centre
