From the Artistic Director

Martin FishmanComedy and tragedy once again "strut their stuff" on stage as we begin our 23rd year as Calgary's public theatre. I am very excited to be presenting two of Shakespeare's most popular and at times most controversial works: The story of love,  jealousy and deception in Othello and the dark and witty battle of the sexes in Much Ado About Nothing. Each play is a mirror image of the other - one tragic, one comedic - exploring love, war and the true value of compassion.

I have been directing professional theatre for over thirty years and still find myself moved by the exquisite artistry of the Bard of Avon. He is truly a playwright for all seasons and all times. His timeless stories continue to bring us to laughter and tears. The diversity in the Shakespeare experience reflects the diversity in our lives as we strive to understand what makes us truly human in a world that at times lacks humanity.

Please join us as we play outside at Shakespeare in the Park. Come down to beautiful Prince’s Island in the heart of Calgary and experience the works of Shakespeare as he was meant to be seen and heard — in the great outdoors.

See you at the Park!
