Frequently Asked Questions

The Company

  • What does SITP mean?
    • SITP is an acronym for ‘Shakespeare in the Park.’
  • How are you affiliated with Mount Royal?
    • SITP first started out as a program through Mount Royal’s theatre department. Since then, we have grown to be our own company, which is overseen by Mount Royal's Conservatory. This means that not all of our company members are students from Mount Royal – but they do produce some great talent!
  • Who works for you?
    •  We hire Shakespeare and theatre enthusiasts. Some of our actors, technicians and office staff have been in the profession for a long time, others are still perfecting their skills, some are new graduates, while others are still in school.
  •    Why are you asking for donations?
    • SITP is a non-profit organization; because of this, we rely heavily on the generosity of our audience. We ask for donations to help us to pay for the time and resources it takes to mount our productions each year, so we can stay inexpensive and accessible to the public.  Find out how you can help SITP.

Ordering Online

  • Theatre Manager is confusing. What do I do?
    • Once you have decided which performance you want to see, it will ask you to select a number to purchase. If you want three reserved seats, make sure you choose 3. If you want one picnic basket, make sure you choose 1. If you want our VIP package (which is two reserved seats and one picnic basket), choose 1 – because you only want one package. Once you confirm, the next page will let you make your choices. You can choose seat, basket or a VIP package, as well as what kind of sandwiches you want in your basket – two chicken sandwiches, two vegetarian sandwiches, or one sandwich of each kind. Just so you know, on each item, under “Purchase Item,” it will say they are festival seating; just ignore that part, as it doesn’t effect your order. If you have any more questions about Theatre Manager, phone Jes at 403.440.PARK.
  • I tried to order online, but it tells me you are sold out. Are you actually sold out?
    • Yes and no. Our reserved seating has been sold out, or you are trying to purchase them after the 2 p.m. cut off. But, there will still be festival seating at the Park. Come down early to find yourself a seat on the grass, and enjoy the show! If you still would like the opportunity to use our front row seating, they are available at the Park for a minimum of $30.00.
  • I ordered online. Do I need to pick up tickets?
    • To make things more personal, we don’t use tickets or numbers – so there are no tickets to pick up.  Come out to the Park, tell us who you are, and we will have everything ready for you.
  • Where do I go to pick up my basket and/or get my seats?
    • When you come down to Prince’s Island Park, look for the signs. Come to the tent at the top of the hill, above the stage, at about 6:30 p.m. Jen will be happy to help you when you get there.

The Shows

  • What happens during bad weather?
    • The show must go on. We rarely cancel shows in advance. If it does rain during the performance, we hold the show for a few minutes until the rain slows. If it is terrible weather that becomes dangerous for our actors, we will cancel the show. If you have bought picnic baskets, we ask for you to pick them up that night as they are non-refundable and will be made no matter what the weather is. If you do come to the Park and we cancel a show, you can phone 403.440.PARK to reschedule your seats for another night. Sorry, but we do not offer refunds.
  • Why do you alternate shows?
    • Performances alternate in order to give variety - this way, a person can watch four different shows within a span of 48 hours. For example, one can watch Shakespeare’s in Love on Friday afternoon, enjoy Romeo and Juliet that evening, come back to see The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) the next day for lunch, then be amazed by A Midsummer Night’s Dream that night.
  • Why did you add matinee shows?
    • Because of the rainy weather this season, SITP decided to add two matinee shows of A Midsummer Night's Dream. This way, those who had to be turned away due to the rain now have more opportunities to come see SITP before the season ends.
