Mount Royal University and the Government of Alberta collaborate
to certify more teachers
(CALGARY – Jan. 23, 2012) Graduates from Mount Royal University’s Bachelor of Education — Elementary program will be officially certified under the Teaching Quality Standard set by the Government of Alberta as a result of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed by the Honourable Thomas Lukaszuk, Minister of Education and Mount Royal’s Provost and Vice-President, Academic, Robin Fisher earlier today.
“This agreement is vital for Mount Royal students because it affirms that our Bachelor of Education — Elementary program provides the solid foundation of knowledge, theory and practical experience they need to be certified as teachers within this province,” says Fisher.
“I am honoured to sign this agreement, which will allow Mount Royal University graduates to be certified as teachers in Alberta,” said Lukaszuk. “This Memorandum of Agreement provides new opportunities for Mount Royal University, and its students, to play an important role in Alberta’s education community.”
Mount Royal University will be the ninth teacher preparation institution in Alberta to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement with the Minister of Education.
The MOA was signed during a brief ceremony at Mount Royal University with members of Mount Royal’s Faculty of Teaching and Learning in attendance.
Mount Royal’s Dean, Faculty of Teaching and Learning, Jim Zimmer, was also welcomed to the Association of Alberta Deans of Education by Chair Marc Arnal during the ceremony. Zimmer joins the Association by virtue of Mount Royal’s signing of the MOA.
