Nonprofit research in Canada gets boost from Mount Royal

(CALGARY – June 25, 2009) The Institute for Nonprofit Studies at Mount Royal is pleased to announce its first series of Applied Research Fund recipients.

The Applied Research Fund is designed to support and promote research in nonprofit organizations in Canada in the areas of policy, governance, and sustainability. This fund is one component of the work undertaken by the Institute to foster excellence in nonprofit and social economy research.

Following a healthy competition and an external review of proposals, four leading post-secondary researchers were selected and a total of $18,500 was allocated among the four recipients. The four recipients who will be completing their projects over the next year are:

• Clifford L. Spyker, Mount Royal College (sustainability): Cluster Analysis of Descriptive Statistics and Performance Metrics for Registered Charities in Canada
• Harvey Frankel and Sid Frankel, University of Manitoba (sustainability): Identifying Determinants of Implementation Success in a Program Adoption-Based Sustainability Strategy: A case of a small Alberta-based international development organization
• Travis Gleidt and Paul Parker, University of Waterloo (sustainability): Voluntary Green Electrical Purchasing: A comparative study of North American nonprofit organizations
• Agnes Meinhard, Ryerson University (governance): Diverse Nonprofit Organizations for Diverse Communities
