Mount Royal launches Centre for Child Well-Being
Renowned expert from Yale School of Medicine to deliver seminar

(CALGARY – April 1, 2009) Mount Royal will formally announce the establishment of the Centre for Child Well-Being next Friday, April 3, 2009. The new centre will investigate, promote and enhance child well-being by enabling Mount Royal faculty and students to work with community partners and address questions of mutual interest. The centre will also facilitate collaborative research and academic activities between various departments at Mount Royal.

Immediately following the announcement of the centre, Dr. Kyle Pruett, an internationally recognized expert from the Yale School of Medicine on children, family relationships, and fathers, will host an open community seminar in the Lincoln Park Room (J 301).

Dr. Pruett’s special presentation, “What’s Hot in Child Development and Why Parents (and those who support them) Should Care,” will offer new findings in the field of child and family development and the unique parenting challenges of the 21st century.

Examples of community-based research projects by students of Child Studies will be also reviewed at the event.

  • Calgary Sexual Health Centre: Supporting GLBT Youth in Youth Programs
  • Wild Rose United Church: The Need for Child Care in Rosedale/Crescent Heights
  • Community Collaborative: Physical Activity for Preschoolers
  • MR Collaborative: Environmental Health in Child Care Centres
  • Fraser Mustard Chair in Childhood Development: Knowledge of Early Brain Development
  • Calgary and Area Child and Family Services and MR faculty: Communities of Practice Alberta Mental Health: Evaluation of “Bounce Back”
