Mount Royal University’s President Dave Marshall signs international agreements on behalf of CONAHEC
(CALGARY March 15, 2010) Post-secondary students around the world will have more opportunities to study abroad than ever before. President Dave Marshall, proudly introduced Mount Royal University to colleagues from around the world at the Global Higher Education Forum (GHEF) late last year.
As president of the Consortium for North American Higher Education Collaboration (CONAHEC), Marshall signed a collaborative agreement with the Association of African Universities (AAU), the University of Sciences of Malaysia (USM) and the Association of Arab Universities (AARU) which will enhance future opportunities for students by increasing access to African and Arabian associations as well as to the Asia-Pacific region.
The signing of the agreement took place during the closing session of the Global Higher Education Forum (GHEF) which was held in Penang, Malaysia in December of 2009. This event was co-organized by AAU, USM, AARU, CONAHEC and the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education.
The agreement, which fosters better understanding of different cultures and global economic trends, intends to bring together the signing organizations in order to open doors for students around the world to study at institutions in foreign countries. In addition, CONAHEC agreed to serve as co-organizer of the 2011 Global Higher Education Forum.
“We feel that what we do as universities transcends national borders,” says Marshall of the memorandum of agreement signed at GHEF. “The results of this engagement will see our students continue to benefit from more opportunities than ever before.” At the conference, Mount Royal University was featured as one of the higher education institutions in the world which have been successfully transitioning while keeping a leading role in international education.
