Vice-President, Student Affairs and Campus Life
Steve Fitterer is Vice-President, Student Affairs and Campus Life. Fitterer works to understand the changing needs of students and to apply this knowledge to student services within Mount Royal University. In addition to overseeing nine service departments, he sits on many of the University’s major planning bodies including the President's Executive Committee, Budget Advisory Committee, Strategic Plan Implementation Committee, Aboriginal Steering Committee, Campus Master Plan Committee and Emergency Response Management Steering Committee.
Fitterer joined Mount Royal University in 2005 and served in positions of increasing responsibility prior to his executive appointment in September 2015, most recently as Director of Residence Services. Before coming to Calgary, he worked in student affairs and housing at the Canadian International College in North Vancouver and his alma mater, the University of Victoria.
Fitterer earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Victoria in 1991. He also holds a professional certificate of university management from the Centre for Higher Education Research and Development at the University of Manitoba. His contribution to student housing was recognized in 2014 when he was presented with the prestigious David B. Stephen Award by the Northwest Association of College and University Housing Officers, an organization at which he served as president for a three-year term.
Off campus, he is an active member of the 100 Men Calgary charitable group.
