Book a Workshop for Your Class

Faculty and instructional staff at MRU can book START to lead or support student workshops on common Mount Royal technologies including MyMRU, Blackboard, MS Office, and Google Apps. Workshop TopicsSTART offers the following workshops, which can be tailored to meet the specific needs of your class. Unless otherwise stated, all workshops are hands-on and require the use of a computer lab.

Help your students to get started on the right digital foot! Students are introduced to essential online tools and tips at MRU. Students have the opportunity to activate their account, send email from their school Gmail account and through Blackboard, login to MyMRU, connect to campus Wi-Fi, learn about printing options on campus, and explore best practices for internet security.

We offer two versions of this workshop to suite your needs. A short 20 minute overview of the technology with no student participation or a longer 50 minute hands-on demo.

Duration: 20 min. overview or 50 min. hands-on demo
Students will learn about different methods for logging in to Blackboard, browser best practices related to Blackboard use. They will also explore basic features and functionality of Blackboard including: blogs, discussion boards, picture profile, grades, email, class lists, quizzes, exams, and submitting assignments.
Duration: 30 min.

Students will learn how to use Google drive to create, store and share documents. They will also be given a quick overview of the Google Apps available to them through their MRU account including Docs, Slides, Calendar and more.

Do your students need to create an e-portfolio? Google Sites is a great solution for creating a website quickly and easily. In this workshop students explore how to insert pictures, build tables, apply formatting and visual themes, build a navigation bar, and work with hyperlinks.
Duration: 60 min.
Give your students the tools to present numerical information in a visual format. In this workshop students explore how to create graphs using embedded excel charts and how to present information effectively.
Duration: 50 min.

This workshop will introduce your students to the process of creating a media assignment, from script writing to production to editing. They will also learn more about the tools and resources START offers to make working with media easier.
Duration: 30 min.
