Specialization in Disability and Multicultural Organizational Change

Welcome to Accessibility Services! My name is Patricia Pardo and I am the Director of Accessibility Services. I was born in Mexico City and then immigrated to Canada with my family in 1967. I speak Spanish fluently and have, over the course of my career, worked in both Mexico and Central America. I am passionate about empowering students experiencing disabilities as both of my parents were totally blind and my younger brother and I are both partially sighted (macular dystrophy). I have spent the last twenty-six years of my career examining disability, diversity and equity issues. I have also had the opportunity to work with post secondary students by teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels in the areas of equity and disability.

I received my PhD in Educational Psychology with a specialization in Disability and Multicultural Organizational Change. At the University of Calgary, I was the Director of the Disability Resource Centre (Student and Academic Services) and was an adjunct assistant professor with the Faculty of Education. I served as the Strategy Lead for People Living in Vulnerable Situations, United Way of Calgary and Area from January, 2007 until June, 2008. I have also served as the President of both the Canadian and Alberta Associations of Disability Service Providers in Post-Secondary Education. I am a Chartered Counsellor through the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association and have been a volunteer with CNIB in various capacities for over 35 years. I am currently serving as the President-elect of the Canadian Association of College and University Student Services (CACUSS).

I welcome you to stop by our office to learn more about the services available to students experiencing disabilities. We would be delighted to assist you with your studies and wish you every success in your academic pursuits.

Warmly,
Patricia A. Pardo, PhD
