Open Studies

Open Studies provides a highly flexible opportunity to explore your educational options at Mount Royal.

Open Studies is designed for those who would like to combine different types of study and/or for students who may be undecided about their post-secondary goals. You may complete a maximum of ten courses (30 credits) at the credit level or choose to combine post-secondary credit classes with upgrading.

Open Studies provides full- or part-time learning opportunities allowing you to:

  • participate in post-secondary education but not entering a specific program of study at this time;
  • sample courses in order to determine what program of study you would like to pursue;
  • take courses for professional development or personal interest;
  • pick up a course(s) to meet the admission requirements for your intended program of interest; or
  • take courses towards a specific program for which you may have missed an admission deadline.

Course-selection is based on your specific requirements. If you are planning to apply for a Mount Royal program in the future, you may want to begin taking courses towards that credential now. The courses for each program can be found on each program page. A complete listing of programs is available here.

If you are uncertain about a future program - meeting with your Academic Advisor can help. We will often refer students to Career Services and Student Counselling Services for specific help with career selection, research, and career counselling.

We strongly encourage all new Open Studies students to attend our Registration Workshop. Click here for more information.
