Career Boost 2007
Homework’s done - it’s just work
You’ve completed all the assignments, passed all the tests and crossed the stage to collect your parchment.
Now it’s time to put that piece of paper to work. Mount Royal Career Services can be an important ally in getting the perfect job. “After you get your parchment, the job isn’t over,” says Melody Choboter, coordinator of Volunteer, Graduate and Career Development. “Nobody tells you how to land that dream job. How do you get your first job in a field related to your education?”
Career Services offers professional career and employment assistance at no charge for graduates of credit programs (applied degree, diploma, certificate), including:
- building a career and employment plan
- targeting professional employment opportunities
- enhancing cover letters and resumes
- mastering interviewing and negotiating skills
- expanding or building professional portfolios
“It’s one thing to get your parchment, but putting your qualifications into words and marketing yourself is a whole new ball game — a new part of your education,” she says.
Valuable one-on-one time with a career development professional can give grads a leg up on the competition. “The majority of jobs posted with us are exclusive to MRC because of the type of grads employers are trying to attract,” Choboter says.
