Resources for New Students

New Student Checklist

Before You Leave Home:


Register for New Student Orientation, Mature Student Orientation and/or Parent Orientation.
• Access the academic calendar online to view your course requirements and look up course options.
• Choose and register for your courses by accessing myMRU. Enter your User Name and Password and click on Student Resource tab. Click Registration. Students can also view their Registration status, class schedule and see their bill.
• Need help figuring out what classes to register for? Find out and visit your Advisor.
• If you choose to live on campus apply for residence. Move in date for residence students is September 4th, 2011.
• Apply for student loan & organize your finances - check out Student Awards & Financial Aid for more information.
• Have a car? Don’t forget to purchase your parking pass online or at EA1016 passes go on sale for students July 4, 2011
• Need a locker? Locker Rentals go on sale July 11, 2011 at the Parking Office at EA1016 and Online.
• Pay your Fees through myMRU or visit the Registrar’s Office fees are due. August 10, 2011
• Purchase your textbooks online through the Bookstore to avoid line ups.

Before Classes Begin:


• If you’re a Mature Student attend Mature Student Orientation on Monday, August 29, 2011.
• Send your Parents to MRU for Parent Orientation on August 29, 2011.
• Pick up your Campus Card at E251 Monday to Friday 8:30 to 4:30 if you’re attending New Student Orientation don’t worry about it you’ll get your Campus Card then!
• Pick up your U-Pass at Parking Services.
• Go to the SAMRU Student Benefits Plan Office and activate your medical benefits plan. If you are already covered by a medical plan opt-out of the SAMRU medical/dental plan with proof of plan.
• Register for classes if you have not already done so (see above). Look out for the add/drop classes date, September 16, 2011.
• Check out the Bookstore and pick up your textbooks that you ordered online.

First Few Weeks at Mount Royal


• Print out a class schedule from the myMRU so you can find where your classes are located.
• Attend to New Student Orientation. The fun begins on September 6 at 8:00 AM in the Recreation Concourse on the second floor of the U-wing
• Go to Recreation to activate your gym membership. It’s included in tuition for full time students! You can also sign up for Fall Fitness Classes.
• Attend your regular classes beginning September 8th, 2011 and figure out if you need to make any changes to your schedule / add or drop any classes.
• If you haven’t yet, purchase your text books from the Bookstore or check out the used books at Copywrite in the basement of Wyckham House.
• Attend a Student Learning Services (T123) workshop to learn better writing and study skills.
• Need a job? Check out Careers Services located on the second floor of Kerby Hall
• Join or start a club through the Student Association. While your their check out the many food kiosks in Wyckham House and play a game of pool at the Liberty Lounge.
• Attend the Campus Service Fair on September 14, 2011 on Main Street to check out the many services MRU has to offer.

Get Involved on Campus

Here at Mount Royal there are many ways to get involved on campus. Getting involved can benefit you in many ways. You can meet new people and gain valuable experiences.  Here are some suggestions for how to get involved on campus.
