The specific high school courses and grades required for admission and the minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) on your post-secondary courses varies by program, therefore, it is important to review the requirements for the program you are interested in.
Post-secondary courses
Courses presented for admission must be transferable courses as determined by Mount Royal upon receipt of all official post-secondary transcripts.
Fall Semester: You will be considered as a post-secondary applicant if you have completed four post-secondary courses (minimum 12 credit hours) by Dec. 31 and will have completed eight post-secondary courses (minimum 24 credit hours) by June 30.
Winter Semester: You will be considered as a post-secondary applicant if you have completed eight post-secondary courses (minimum 24 credit hours) by Aug. 31.
Final/official transcripts showing all post-secondary courses completed by these dates are required to be considered for conditional admission.
High school courses
Final/official high school transcripts are also required for admission. Reporting of high school grades is required to ensure successful completion of the program specific admission requirements indicated for each program. Equivalent post-secondary courses may be substituted for required high school subjects where appropriate.
Fall Semester: Post-secondary applicants are also required to list on their Application for Admission all Group A and B courses which are in progress and will be completed by June 30.
Winter Semester: Post-secondary applicants are also required to list on their Application for Admission all Group A and B courses which were completed by Aug. 31.
Some programs require additional criteria such as an interview, a portfolio, an audition or a resume.
Conditional admission - Post-secondary applicants
Fall Semester: Grades used to assess conditional admission will be calculated on the four most recently completed courses (minimum 12 credit hours) by Dec. 31.
Winter Semester: Grades used to assess conditional admission will be calculated on the eight most recently completed courses (minimum of 24 credit hours) by Aug. 31.
Your admission offer will be conditional until we receive all of your final official grades/transcripts. The conditions you have to meet will be outlined in your offer of admission.
All students issued a conditional offer of admission will be required to submit a $125 non-refundable registration deposit by the date specified in your admission offer.
Applying after academic disqualification
A student who has been required to withdraw (ie. academically disqualified) from Mount Royal, or any other post-secondary institution, will not be admitted to a program at Mount Royal until at least a twelve 12-month period has elapsed since the student was required to withdraw. A student may register in Open Studies during the 12-month waiting period but is only permitted to enroll in high school (upgrading) equivalency courses.
Applicants who have been required to withdraw from Mount Royal, or another post-secondary institution, for academic reasons may be considered for admission to their intended program of study, either on the basis of high school standing or mature standing, after 12-months has elapsed.
Final admission - Post-secondary standing
Final/official transcripts showing all the high school and post-secondary courses you have completed are required for admission. All of your conditions of admission must be met. These transcripts must be received by:
Fall Semester: Aug. 1
Winter Semester: Dec. 1
Unless a specific (higher) admission average has been indicated for the program of your choice, post-secondary applicants are normally required to have a 2.00 Grade Point Average (GPA) on their eight most recently completed post-secondary courses (minimum 24 credit hours). Most programs have minimum grade requirements in specific courses; please see admission requirements in your intended program of study.
Once official transcripts have arrived, they will also be assessed for equivalent courses at Mount Royal. This assessment will be available for you to view online and you will also be able to see how these courses transfer into your specific program within MyMRU once you have been admitted and have paid your registration deposit.
