
Alberta Human Services part-time Skills Investment Program bursaries:
Alberta Human Services offers the Skills Investment Bursary (SIB) to eligible Albertans attending approved part-time academic upgrading at Mount Royal. Funded courses must be needed for entry into employment or further training/education.
Who is eligible for the part-time skills investment bursary?
In order to apply for the part-time skills investment bursary you must be present in Alberta at the time of acceptance in the approved training program, and be either:

Please note: the individual’s net income from line 236 of the individual’s current tax return is used to calculate the total family income.
Spouse/Partner’s net income from line 236 of the spouse/partner’s current tax return is used to calculate the total family income.
Included in the calculation of income are non-taxable child support payments received by the individual and their spouse/partner in the preceding tax year, if applicable.
Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSPs) purchased before studies commenced, with a total combined value owned by the learner and/or spouse/partner up to $100,000.
Must not have combined liquid assets that exceed $5,000 (liquid assets including savings and cash assets or convertible assets such as stocks, bonds, Guaranteed Investment Certificates (GICs), term deposits, and securities). The maximum cumulative amount (tuition, books, travel, child care, etc) issued for the Skills Investment Bursary is $5,000 per calendar year, Jan. 01, to Dec. 31.

Please note: funding received through the Skills Investment Bursary is taxable. In February of each year, T4As are issued for all learners who received a bursary in excess of $500 during the previous tax year. The T4A will be mailed to the learner’s last known address.
Also: Because of the concentrated work load for Spring term Academic Upgrading, students taking two classes are considered a full time MRU student. Because of this, Alberta Works part time bursaries are only available to students taking one course for Spring term.

Please note: appointments take approximately 20 minutes and your application will take approximately 6-8 weeks to process. Additional supports such as books, transportation and other fees will be direct deposited into the bank account you specify. Mount Royal will receive your tuition payment and then note a credit on your account for your tuition amount.
