Who can apply for funding?

Grant funding is available for full-time students who are accepted to one of the below Alberta Works approved Mount Royal one year certificate programs.

To receive grant funding for these programs, you must meet the basic eligibility:

Important information

You need to pay the $125 registration deposit once you have been accepted to your program. However, even if you are accepted into a program at Mount Royal, we can not guarantee you will be approved for funding.

You must register in, and complete 100% of a full course load each term (usually five courses) unless you have been approved for advanced credit prior to the first day of classes.

You must submit a record of your attendance for each class. A record sheet will be provided for you when you are approved for funding. You must have your Instructor sign each day you attend and submit the record to the Skills Investment Program Office every two weeks.

A mid-term grades report will be provided for you. You must have your Instructors complete a mid-term grades report, and you must submit this to the Skills Investment Program Office once per term.

Credit students only: you will need to pay the Health and Dental Insurance fee on your own as Alberta Works does not cover this fee.

Health and Dental coverage is available through Alberta Works, so you may wish to opt out of the student Health and Dental Insurance program through the Students' Association. If you choose to opt out of the Students’ Association Health and Dental Insurance program, you will be reimbursed the cost of the insurance after the opt-out deadline, but you will still need to pay the fee to Mount Royal when your tuition fees are due.

Credit students only: You will need to pay the U-Pass fee on your own. Alberta Works does not cover this cost as the cost of transportation is included in monthly living costs in the calculation of your award. You also need to pay the Athletic fee on your own as Alberta Works does not cover this as well.
