Season outlook
With a number of new faces (seven newcomers) joining only five returning players, the Cougar men’s basketball team will definitely have a new look. The new players have brought great energy and the team is working hard every day in anticipation of the coming season.
The depth of the team this year is going to be a huge asset as the coaches feel that they can go 12 deep, utilizing the full roster. The success of this team will also depend largely on the development of the new players, and how they fit into the systems employed. The coaching staff are also excited about the energy this team brings to the defensive end of the floor, hoping that the Cougars will be a tough team to score on in 2011-12.
New additions to the team include high school graduates Ammon Crowfoot (Western Canada), Shayne Stumpf (Lacombe), James Lefebvre (Didsbury), and Mangk Akwl (Father Lacombe), along with transfers Josh White (3rd year - SAIT), Keville Ollivierre (5th year - Red Deer College), and Kyle Newman (4th year - Yuba College / Dakota- Weslayan).
Returning players include Nick Loewen (4th year), Trent Offereins (5th year), Chase Rickaby (3rd year), Kyle Wilson (2nd yr), and Awet Abraha (2nd year).
Although there are many new players the expectation of this team by the coaching staff is to continue the tradition of Cougar Basketball, playing hard and playing together.
The program is looking forward to the season ahead.
