Season outlook
The 2009-2010 season will unfold itself with heightened expectations for the Cougar men’s hockey program. Coming off a silver medal finish last season the Cougars will look to position themselves as a top program in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) once again this season.
A strong core of returning players and a solid incoming recruiting class are key elements that will direct the program towards success. The most integral components in the Cougars attempt to confirm their status among the top tier in the ACAC will be their team culture and commitment to excellence. With heightened expectations the Cougars will have to demonstrate a tireless work ethic, discipline and game execution that will put them at their best competitive level throughout their 28 game schedule. With added parity throughout the ACAC hockey conference the Cougars have a challenging season ahead of them and their success will lie directly on their ability to realize the potential they possess within their locker room. With the momentum gained from last year, the Cougars look to take last season’s strong finish to guide the program towards a strong start and continued progress throughout 2009-2010.
The short term goals of this season focus upon the achievement of performance standards that will result in a medal finish in the ACAC playoffs. The long term goals for this group of student-athletes will be to honour the tradition of Cougar hockey and continue the positive development achieved by the class of 2008-2009. The desired outcome for this group of student-athletes and those after them will be to ensure that they do everything possible within their control upon graduation and beyond to make Cougar hockey successful. It is with great pride that this hockey program represents Mount Royal University and the Cougar athletic tradition.
