With a pair of wins over the weekend for the Cougars men’s soccer team, the squad will now host the men’s ACAC Soccer Championships October 22-24th.
Heading into the weekend in first place, but still needing a single point to clinch the division title, the Cougar men made sure that happened, registering 4-0 and 5-1 wins on Saturday and Sunday.
Tudor Dinca started in net for the Cougars on Saturday and got plenty of support up front as the Cougars shutout the Lethbridge College Kodiaks 4-0.
The Cougars’, whose four goals came from four different players, continue to look like one of the favourites heading into the championships.
Arthur Paszkowski, Brandan Cyzmoch, Mauricio Rosas and Alan Miller all scored for the Cougars, who played a complete game from start to finish.
On Sunday, the team capped their season with a 5-1 victory over Red Deer College to clinch the number one seed - finishing league play with an 8-1-1 record, earning the right to host the three-day tournament.

The Cougars were stellar during the 2010-11 season, allowing only six goals all season, while scoring 39. Their plus 33 goal differential ranked second in the league.
Along with the No.1 seed, the Cougars will also earn a bye to Saturday’s semi-final where they will take on the winner of Friday’s quarter-final between the NAIT Ooks and Medicine Hat Rattlers.
The Cougars have yet to square off against the Ooks this season, who bring with them a 7-3 record, but have had plenty of trouble with the Medicine Hat Rattlers whom they have yet to beat, registering a 1-0 loss and 2-2 tie with the club.
The tournament is set to get underway on Friday at 12:00 p.m., culminating in the gold medal match on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Full schedule below:
