3-1 versus Lethbridge Kodiaks

Women’s Volleyball
The Cougars women’s volleyball team continues to assert themselves as one of the top teams in the ACAC.

A weekend after sweeping the Keyano College Huskies, the lady Cougars were back with the brooms, sweeping the Lethbridge Kodiaks in a pair of matches to improve to 6-0 on the season.

In Friday night’s three-set victory, the Cougars used a strong team effort, as four players registered seven kills or more, as well as a season high ten service aces to cruise to a 25-15, 25-10, 25-18 victory.

Julia Pasieka, Breanna Estabrook, Andrea Price and Diyon Van Nistelrooy all proved to be offensive catalysts for the Cougars, while Paige Dean notched five of the team’s ten service ace.

Head coach Sandra Lamb was particularly pleased with her group of middles in Van Nistelroo and Pasieka, as well as Lindsey Kist calling them “…a model of consistency, and solid at the net,” in Friday’s win.

In Saturday’s three-set sweep, the Cougars once again showed no mercy, hammering the Kodiaks (25-15, 25-17, 25-15) to move into first place overall in the ACAC with 12 points.
“I thought this was one of our best weekends to date,” said head coach Sandra Lamb. “We played with a lot of passion and determination to finish each point. We had our best passing weekend in three years and I impressed with their control and ability to compete.”

With the pair of wins, the Cougars improve to 6-0 to start the season, tied for top spot with Grand Prairie Wolves and Lakeland Rustlers with 12 points overall, though both the Wolves and Rustlers have played two more matches than the Cougars.

The women will look to continue their red-hot streak versus the Briercrest Clippers in a pair of home games Friday and Saturday. Game times for the women are 6:00 p.m. Friday and 1:00 p.m. Saturday.

Men’s Volleyball
For the Cougar men, the last two weeks have been a tale of two teams. Last weekend, the Cougars looked dominate in a 3-1 victory over the Keyano Huskies on Friday night, before falling to those same Huskies 3-0 following evening.

Fast forward a week and once again the Cougars looked dominate on Friday, cruising to a hard-fought 3-1 victory (25-21, 26-24, 24-26, 25-21) before dropping a three-set decision on Saturday.

Friday night, three Cougars reached double-digits in kills, as Will Young, Dan Durham and Colton deMan all eclipsed the ten kill mark, with Deman and Young accounting for 14 kills apiece while Durham continued his reign of terror leading the charge with 15.

deMan also lead the team in digs, with 15 on Friday night, showing her offensive prowess and ability to keep balls alive.

On Saturday, the team looked unlike themselves, getting shelved in three straight sets 22-25, 12-25, 21-25.

With the loss, the team dropped to 4-2 on the season, but will look to get back on the saddle this weekend with a pair of home games versus the Briercrest Clippers.

The match should provided a good benchmark for head coach Shawn Sky as the Clippers sit in second spot with a 6-2 record.

Match times for the weekend are 8:00 p.m. Friday and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
