CCAA Golf Round 1 results

The first round of the CCAA National Golf Championship is in the books and the Cougars will need to up their game if they are looking to contend on day two.

The men’s team sits in tenth place overall, 20 strokes back of first place Humber College out of Toronto.

Head coach Brock Balog says while the team didn’t play great, he expects them to bounce back in the second round.

“The men’s team didn’t show their best game, but if the true character of the team shines through they will exhibit stronger play tomorrow,” said Balog.

The men’s team breakdown is as follows:

Craig Blooms first round 71 has him sitting in sixth place overall in the men’s individual competition.

Meanwhile, teammate Jeremy Vold competing under the Cougars namesake, but competing solely for the men’s individual championship fired a 75 to sit in tied for 28th.

Tanner Fermaniuk from Grant MacEwan sits in first place overall on the men’s side after a firing a six-under 65, four strokes ahead of the nearest competition.

On the women’s side of the draw, the Cougars team sits tied for fourth place with Lethbridge College, 21 strokes behind tthe leaders fromDurham College.

The team showed consistent improvement from their ACAC championship and look to situate themselves in the top three come Friday.
