Welcome back 2011-12

It’s that time of year once again - back to school. After almost four months off, the students are flooding the hallways, the lineups at Tim Horton’s are 50 people deep and the student-athletes and Cougars teams are raring to go.

After an exceptional 2010-11 season, which saw the Cougars win four ACAC and one CCAA national championship, the expectations are even higher as the Cougars embark on their final year in the ACAC, as they’ll move onto the Canada West and the CIS in 2012-13.

The varsity season gets underway on Sunday, September 11 as the Cougars men’s and women’s soccer teams head down to Cohos Commons Field to take on their cross-town rivals the SAIT Trojans on their home turf.

There is no shortage of bad blood between the two teams, so Sunday’s matchup should be interesting kickoff to the season.

The first home game of the new season will take place on Sat. Sept 24 as the visiting Medicine Hat Rattlers make their way into town to take on the Cougars.

The Cougars will be hosting their annual home opener BBQ featuring burgers, chips and soft drinks for a student-friendly price of $5, as well as giving away an Applie iPad to one lucky fan. Game time for the women is at noon, while the men kickoff at 2 pm.

For new and returning students, staff and faculty don’t forget that Cougar Athletics games are always free with your university ID!
