
The Cougars women’s basketball team strung together another pair of wins over the weekend, improving their record to an unblemished 6-0 with four games remaining before the winter break.
The Cougars squeezed by the NAIT Ooks on Friday night by 12 points, 65-53, as nine different players found the score sheet, in one of the teams most complete efforts of the season.
Katie Pearson had her best game of the year, scoring a game-high 17 points, while Kristen Docherty fell just short of a double-double scoring nine points and adding 11 rebounds.
In Grand Prairie on Saturday, the Cougar women continued to roll, posting a 24 point win versus the Wolves 74-50.
Emily Larson led the club with 17 points, while Kari Youmans and Danica Rybachuk each contributed 14 as Cougs’ won their sixth straight.
Meanwhile for the Cougar men, they played to their first split weekend of the year, as the team dropped to the two-time defending ACAC champion NAIT Ooks on Friday night 87-71.
Five Ooks scored in double-digits on Friday, while Shayne Stumpf led the Cougars with 15 points and five rebounds.
The Cougar men righted the ship Saturday night, hammering the GPRC Wolves 77-45, as Stumpf once again continued his consistent play adding 12 point and nine rebounds, while fourth-year forward Nick Loewen led the team in scoring with 15 points.
After spending last weekend on the road, the Cougar men and women will return to the friendly confines of Kenyon Court for a clash with the Grant MacEwan Griffins Friday, and the Keyano Huskies on Saturday.
Game time for both nights is 6:00 p.m. for the women and 8:00 p.m. for the men.
