Open up the record books, as Mount Royal University Cougars forward Christina Hodgson has etched her name in ACAC lore, becoming the conferences all-time regular season assists leader this past weekend with a pair of helpers versus the NAIT Ooks.
With a single assist in both Friday and Saturday night’s game, Christina hit the 50 assist mark, surpassing former MRC Cougar Melissa Wetlon's league best of 49.
Welton played with Mount Royal from 2000-2004, and was top three in team scoring all four seasons.
Hodgson meanwhile, has been with the Cougars since the 2008-09 season, captaining the squad to an ACAC champion in 2009-10, where she netted a career high 19 assists in 24 regular season games.
“It’s awesome, “said Hodgson “It means a lot. I’ve always been the type of player to muck and grind in the corners and get the puck to the goal scorers and obviously this wouldn’t have happen without them. I’ve been fortunate enough to play with some great line mates throughout my career which has made this all possible – I’m really excited.”

Head coach Scott Rivett shares her enthusiasm.
“It’s an exciting individual recognition for her,” said Rivett. “I think it speaks to the success we’ve had as a team since she’s been involved in our program, but there is no question that she’s worked hard to be the best she can be every year, and every game, and the record is a reflection of her commitment to be one of the leaders of our program.”
Hodgson will look to continue racking up the assists in the second-half of the season with another 12 ACAC games remaining before the Cougars make the jump to the Canada West in 2012-13.
Congratulations Chrissy on your ACAC record!
