The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference is pleased to announce that Scott Rivett from Mount Royal University has been selected by his ACAC coaching peers as the 2010-11 ACAC Women’s Hockey Coach of the Year.
In his third year with the Mount Royal University Cougars, head coach Scott Rivett led his team to one of the most prolific seasons in the ACAC’s 11 year history.
Posting a 21-1-2 record in 24 games, Rivett’s Cougars surpassed the 2001-02 Red Deer Queens for most wins a season, besting the previous mark of 19 in a single campaign.
The team’s 96 goals [for] were the second highest in ACAC history, while their 34 goals [against] were the fifth fewest since the league started playing 20 or more games in a season.
(Rivett has now won the award three times)
The Cougars registered seven of the top ten point getters during the regular season and also owned the league’s best powerplay and second best penalty kill.
Originally from Lloydminster, Alberta, Scott also became the first women’s hockey head coach in ACAC history to reach 100 career wins – when his Cougars defeated the NAIT Ooks 5-3 on January 21st.
Scott has his intermediate coaching certification and also brings an abundance of experience as a hockey instructor and evaluator in addition to his degree in commerce. This will be the third time that Rivett has won ACAC Coach of the Year, also claiming the prestigious honour in 2004-05 and 2005-06 with the SAIT Trojans.
