Khaula Bhutta is MRU’s new Human Rights Advisor. She provides confidential support for individuals with questions, concerns or complaints involving discrimination, harassment and accommodation. Khaula has a LL.M in International Human Rights Law and Practice from the University of York and a B.A in Law, Politics and Economics from Dublin City University. Khaula is an experienced advisor who has helped individuals, institutions and charities with human rights related issues in Canada, Ireland, UK and Malaysia.
Khaula can help explain the formal complaint procedures and provide information about your rights and responsibilities under MRU policies. She is here to help both students and employees have a positive, respectful and inclusive experience at MRU. Services also include mediation, education and advocacy. Some instances where you may want to reach out would be cases of bullying by peers, accommodation issues with your professors or unfair treatment by your superiors or peers.
Khaula has a passion for Human Rights Law and has practiced in Ireland, UK and Malaysia. With a LL.M. in International Human Rights Law and Practice from the University of York (UK) and a B.A. in Law, Politics and Economics from Dublin City University (Ireland), Khaula has the right knowledge to address your Human Rights concerns.
Prior to joining MRU, Khaula worked for law firms drafting court pleadings for clients, led campaigns for inclusion as the Equality Officer at DCU, worked for not-for-profit organizations as a human rights project manager and spent her free time volunteering as a human rights educator in schools, community centers and on radio. She enjoys travelling the world, exploring cultural issues and making more friends in Canada! She is also fluent in Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu.
