Room assignment priorities

Assignment for fall housing is given first to returning students participating in room draw. All newly admitted students are also guaranteed Residence placement if you apply and pay your security deposit by June 15.

Returning residents

Current residents can participate in room self select in the spring to choose their unit for the following year. Information about self select will be sent to you in November.

New residents

Room assignments for new students and returning students who do not participate in room draw will be on a first-come, first-served basis, based on a complete application and receipt of your security deposit.

Choosing a Living Learning Community

A preference on your application for a living learning community will be considered as your first preference: over type of accommodation as well as roommate choice. If you want to live with a specific roommate and choose a living learning community, please make sure the roommate also selects the Living Learning Community.

Requesting a specific roommate

If you and a friend wish to be roommates you must choose each other on the application portal. Instructions on how to do this will be emailed to you once we receive your security deposit. Roommates must be selected by June 15 in order for us to accommodate your request.

Please note that once a wait list has begun for Residence, students placed from the wait list are placed into the first available space and it is less likely that we will be able to accommodate roommate requests at this time in the placement process.

Returning residents may be approved for mixed-gender units only if the unit will be filled and all students in the unit agree and sign the roommate request form, requesting each other specifically. This option is not available for new residents or international students.

Confirming your room assignment

You will be advised of your room placement in June (Fall semester), November (Winter semester), and April (Spring semester).

Requesting a room change

A room-change freeze is in effect for the first month of each semester, to give residents a chance to get to know their roommates and become comfortable with living in residence.

We understand conflicts sometimes arise. If you wish to request a room change, you can download a room change request form or pick one up at the Residence Services office.
