At check-in, you will pick up your keys and sign your contract. You must have read the Contract/Accommodation Agreement, Residence Policies, Procedures and Conduct Guide, Residence Network Acceptable Use Policy and the Release Form for Applicants Under the Age of 18 (if applicable) before you check in.
You will be issued your bedroom key, mailbox key and mailbox number, and a door code for the East Residence townhouses or a key card for the West Residence apartments, as appropriate.
You will also receive a room check-in report. It is your responsibility to examine your unit carefully and indicate on the check-in report any missing items or damages, and then return the signed report to your Resident Advisor (RA) within 24 hours of moving in.
If you don’t return the completed check-in form on time, you could be held responsible for any damages to your unit, regardless of when they occurred.
You will receive information about moving into residence in your letter welcoming you to Mount Royal (usually mailed in June).
Fall 2009 move-in

9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
If you cannot check in during these times, you may check in after Sep. 6. Residence Services will be open on Labour Day, Monday, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Otherwise, our regular hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
If your academic program begins before move in, please contact Residence Services to make arrangements for early move-in. Additional charges will apply.
Moving in on Sep. 6
East Residence students — check in at the East Residence Community Building.
West Residence students — check in at the Residence Services office in Building B at the West Residence.
Moving in other than Sep. 6
Check in at the Residence Services office in Building B of the West Residence.
International students
If your flight is scheduled to arrive after regular business hours, please contact Residence Services to make special arrangements to move in.
Please do not book your flights to arrive earlier than the move in date whenever possible. Also, you must ensure that your departure meets the move out dates for Residence as you will not be allowed to stay in Residence after the move out date if you are leaving Residence at the end of the term.
Winter 2010 move-in

9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
If you cannot check in on move-in day, our office is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. starting Monday, Jan. 4, 2010. Please contact us if you will be checking in other than move-in day. A request for early arrival may be approved, though additional residence fees will apply. Please contact the office for early move in. Due to the college holiday closure, move in is not available prior to Jan. 4.
Regardless of where your residence unit is located, check in at the Residence Services Office in Building B of the West Residence.
International students
If your flight is scheduled to arrive after regular business hours, please contact Residence Services to make special arrangements to move in. We are not able to accommodate arrivals prior to Jan. 4.
Moving in for spring/summer semester
Spring/Summer 2009 move-in last week of April, first week of May
Current residents staying for the spring/summer semester will move to designated summer housing the week of May 4, 2009. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Office hours in April are from Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Office hours are extended in May until 10 p.m.
International Students
If you are an English as a Second Language (ESL) student and your program begins in April 2009, please contact Residence Services to inquire if space is available for move in before the beginning of your studies. The academic term for Winter, runs from January — May, therefore, it is possible that no space is available until May. If space is available, It is likely that you will need to move to a temporary placement for April and then again in May to summer housing.

Mount Royal residence facilities are available to students as well as visitors during the summer.
Student housing
Summer student housing is available in designated areas for current residents and for new students registered in spring/summer courses. Both current and new residents must submit applications for summer housing.
Summer housing contracts are from April 30, 2009 through Aug. 21, 2009.
Current residents will be assigned housing in the designated area for student summer housing. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
If you wish to be a new resident student, you must be enrolled in the spring/summer semester.
If you wish to continue to live in residence in the fall semester, you will move to a fall housing assignment for Aug. 21.
If you are not returning in the fall, you must check out by noon on Aug. 21, 2009. Please make a check out appointment through the residence office.
International students
If you are an English as a Second Language (ESL) or other international student and will stay at Mount Royal for the fall semester, you must reapply for fall residence housing. There is no deadline to apply for housing, however space is assigned on a first come, first served basis.
If you are not staying for the fall semester and your program continues past Aug. 21, you may request to stay in residence for a few extra days. This will depend on availability, and may require you to move to temporary student housing, if available, so that we can prepare for the fall move-in of students based on the college academic calendar dates.
Guest and visitor accommodation

Mount Royal residences are fully furnished, so all you need to add are the personal touches.
If you have any questions about whether something can be brought into residence, it’s best to check first with the Residence Services office or your Resident Advisor.

Mount Royal Residences will be closed from Dec. 24, 2009 - Jan. 4, 2010, for the annual holiday closure.
As you leave for the holiday closure, please be sure to:
Residence fees do not cover the college closure period. In extenuating circumstances, you can stay in residence during the holiday closure only if you are returning to residence in January. You may be given approval to remain in residence for all or part of the holiday closure period. Extra fees will apply.
You must complete a holiday stay application form, or at the Residence Services office. Applications are due no later than Dec. 7, 2009.
