Application Process for New Applicants

Application Process

Step 1 – Applications

Applications  will be available starting on Monday January 9th, 2012 at 8:30am and must be completed by 4:30pm on Friday January 27th, 2012.

Your cover letter, résumè and unofficial transcripts must be received by 4:30pm on Friday January 27th, 2012 to Alyssa Graham at agraham@mtroyal.ca . Please submit these documents in either word or PDF format.

Step 2 – Information Sessions

You will be asked to sign up for an Information Session in your online application. Information sessions are not mandatory, but are a good chance to ask any questions that you might have about the hiring process and what it is like being a RA. You will have the chance to learn about all of the important dates for becoming a RA and will have the opportunity to talk to and hear stories from students who are currently RAs.

Information Sessions will be held on the following dates:

Tuesday, January 17th from 5:00pm - 6:00pm in the East Community Centre
Thursday, January 19th from 5:00pm - 6:00pm in West Residence Building RB1025

Step 3 – Carousel Interviews

Applicants will sign up for a carousel interview time though the online application. If you application is selected to proceed, you will be invited to the first part of the selection process which is the carousel interview. You will be notified by email on Wednesday February 1st, 2012 of the date, time and location of your carousel interview.

During the carousel interview you will be lead through a series of different workstations and activities. Carousel is a fun and interactive way for the professional staff to get to know you. There is no preparation necessary for the carousel interview. We do however encourage applicants to take some time to reflect on why they have applied for a RA position and to dress in an appropriate fashion.

The two dates and time that are being offered are:

Saturday February 4th from 10:00am – 12:00pm
Sunday February 5th from 10:00am – 12:00pm

Step 4 – Individual Interviews

After the carousel interview process, the professional staff will review all of the candidates and determine who they would like to see move onto the next step of the interview process, which is the Individual Interview. All applicants will receive an email by 4:00pm on Sunday February 5th, 2012 informing them if they have been successful in achieving an Individual Interview.

Successful candidates will be able to sign up for their interview from 9:00am on Monday February 6th, 2012 until 12:00pm (noon) on Tuesday February 7th, 2012 at the Residence Services Front Desk located in West Residence Building B.

Individual interviews will take place from Tuesday February 7th, 2012 until Monday February 13th, 2012. Please come dressed in an appropriate fashion for your interview.

Step 5 – Decisions

This is the toughest part of the whole process, building a strong team. Residence Services strives to create a team that has a diverse group of people with different talents that allows the team to grow and learn from each other.

Taking everything that we have learned though your application, carousel interview, and individual interview the Residence Life Coordinators will build and create the Residence Life Team for the upcoming year.

On Friday February 17th, 2012 starting at 9:00am you will be able to pick up your decision letter from the Residence Services Front desk that is located in West Residence, Building B.
