Residence Life program

Our Vision

"We engage the Mount Royal learning community in meaningful co-curricular experiences within a supportive, vibrant environment."

Student Affairs and Campus Life

Mount Royal University was founded in 1910 with a central purpose to help students achieve their full potential. This is still a primary focus of Student Affairs and Campus Life today.

Our Resident Advisors and the Residence Activities Council supports our vision by helping to create communities and living environments that promote the academic and personal success of our residence students.

Another powerful and effective way to help students reach their goals is through the Residence Life Program. Our programming model is the core of Residence Life and encompasses the themes and goals of Residence Services and Mount Royal University.

Residence Life programming
Our programming concentrates on creating, planning, financing and administering relevant activities, events, sessions and workshops that foster an attitude of community involvement and civic responsibility in residence.

Our programs are:

Both active and passive
An active program is typically a planned social, educational or developmental event/workshop that gathers people in the residence community together for a period of time. Learning occurs in a group setting where outcomes are measured and evaluated.

A passive program is typically a bulletin board or display in a visible location that conveys meaningful information on a variety of relevant topics. Learning occurs in an independent, self-taught manner.

Both developmental and social
Developmental programs focus on assisting students develop important skills that assist them in their growth toward maturity, academic strength and personal independence.

Social programs are typically non-educational activities that join people together to enhance social skills, to have fun and to release tension, anxiety and frustration.
