Top Rope Climbing
The first step in our Climbing Skills Series. This "learn the ropes" introductory course covers the technical skills needed to successfully complete the top rope belay test and use the Recreation Climbing Centre unsupervised during open climbing hours. Topics covered include harness use, rope management, and belay techniques. The course fee includes a complimentary Recreation top rope belay test and all equipment rentals.
Part of our Climbing Skills Series, this three hour intermediate development course covers movement techniques and training tips for the climber looking to achieve increased fluidity, efficiency, and grace while on the wall or at the crag. Topics covered will include managing your body positions, as well as hand and footwork techniques to succeed on routes graded 5.10 and higher. Instructors will also point out locations in the Climbing Centre specifically set for the participants to practice their skills after the course. The course fee includes all equipment rentals.
Part of our Climbing Skills Series, this three hour intermediate course covers the fundamentals of lead climbing, and the requisite skills to successfully complete the lead climbing belay test and lead climbing in the Recreation Climbing Centre. Topics covered include draw clipping, rope management, and lead belay techniques. The course fee includes a complimentary lead belay test and all equipment rentals.
Outdoor Climbing (coming soon!)
Women Only Climbing
Join us for an evening of women only climbing. Female staff will be on hand to monitor the facility and provide helpful hints for climbing.
Prerequisite(s): 4 - 6 years
This six week experience-based course is a great opportunity for children to challenge themselves and explore the exciting sport of indoor climbing. Our certified instructors create a safe and encouraging environment where personal growth and development thrive.
Summit Seekers (7 – 13 years)
Children and youth love to seek out new adventures and nothing is more adventurous than reaching the summit of our 40 foot climbing wall. This six week instructional course covers the basic technical skills required for indoor climbing in an energetic and safe environment.
Prerequisite(s): 7 - 13 years with previous climbing experience.Climbing Development Team (12 – 16 years)
This program is designed for youth between the ages of 12 and 16 who are serious about climbing. Training is conducted bi-weekly in a fun, yet structured environment. The program goal is confidence development through personal challenge with mental and physical training. Weekly sessions will include drills and exercises that focus on technique, technical skills, mental acuity and strength. This program was created to assist climbers in exceeding their perceived potential; therefore a conscious commitment to training and a strong dedication to climbing are required.
Team members will be provided with a Recreation Climbing Centre membership so they can train between scheduled training sessions at no charge.
Prerequisite(s): 12 - 16 years with previous climbing experience
