It's Your Move (IYM)

IYMHeaderProgram Objective
The "It's Your Move" program provides a safe handling program for clients and healthcare workers as required by OH&S legislation and collective agreements. Part of the training includes a hazard assessment and the need to eliminate or manage those hazards.

Currently only being offered to MRU School of Nursing, Midwifery and BCN Faculty and students.

Step 1: Register for IYM Course

Step 1: Register for IYM Refresher Course

Step 2: Complete Online Module
  • Access and complete the It's Your Move: Annual Overview online module (last module on the page).
  • Print certificate to bring to your practical session
  • Online Module takes 1 – 2 hours to complete
Step 2: Prepare for Practical Session
  • Access and complete the It's Your Move: Annual Review online module (last on the page). This module must be reviewed on an annual basis and before the practical session.
  • Print certificate and bring to the practical session
  • Online Module takes 1 – 2 hours to complete

Step 3: Prep for Practical Session

  • Print off participation waiver (read, initial and sign your required sections. Witness signature can be obtained at the session.)
  • Bring all of the above with you to the practical session
  • Wear your program specific scrub top to the lab (i.e. BN = white scrub top)
  • Follow SLC Code of Conduct while attending the session

 Step 3: Attend Practical Session

  • The practical session will be a one and a half hour hands-on session to review information and techniques taught in the original IYM course
  • Print off participation waiver (read, initial and sign your required sections.  Witness signature can be obtained at the session.)
  • Wear your program specific scrub top to the session (i.e. BN = white scrub top)
  • Follow SLC Code of Conduct while attending the session

 Step 4: Attend Practical Session

  • The practical session is a three hour course where the instructor will take you through the practical skills of the course, provide demonstrations and evaluate participants on knowledge and performance of techniques taught

 Step 4: Proof of Certification

  • Photocopy the card and provide a copy to your program administration office

IYM Withdrawal / Transfer Policy
An IYM participant is required to give seven days notice prior to the course commencement, in order to withdraw or transfer into another IYM course. 

Seven days or more before a course start date:

  • Transfer – transfers from one IYM to another IYM course is subject to availability and will be processed with no administration fee.

Less than seven days before course start date:
Must go to U130 – MRU Recreation Customer Service Centre to fill in a course withdraw/transfer form which will be processed within four business days.

  • Refund – refund less an administration fee will only be processed due to medical reasons or relocation and is subject to approval. In all cases, documentation must be provided.

NOTE: Course fees after the course date are non-refundable. IYM courses require 100% attendance. If you are more than 10 minutes late, you will NOT be admitted to the course and no refund will be given. Additionally, if a student misses a class, they will be required to sign up for a new course at the full price unless otherwise approved by Recreation.
