We offer the following courses in certification and recertification: WSI & WSIR
The Water Safety Instructor (WSI) course prepares candidates to instruct Red Cross Swim Programs. This course is comprised of the skills evaluation and online modules. This session will ensure candidates have the necessary water safety knowledge, strokes and skills equivalent to the Red Cross Swim Kids 10 performance criteria as well as Instructor Emergency Response (IER) skills. Additionally you will receive information on how to access the online modules that focus on the theory of instruction through videos, virtual games, online activities, workbook exercises and a knowledge evaluation at the end of each module. You must complete all four steps of the course.
This course is the prerequisite for Lifesaving Society Bronze Cross. Course content includes CPR Level A and an introduction to the role of a lifesaver.
These two Lifesaving Society certifications (BC & SFA) are the prerequisites for the National Lifeguard. You can register for the Bronze Cross only or register for the combined course at a special price.
BC course includes an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities, CPR level C and lifesaving skills. It is the third level of the Bronze Medal family.
SFA course includes head and spinal injuries, environmental emergencies, sudden medical illness, soft tissue injuries and poisons. You may be certified in either SFA or BC or both.

Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard certification is Canada's professional lifeguard standard. National Lifeguard training develops a sound understanding of lifeguarding principles, good judgement and a mature and responsible attitude towards the lifeguard's role. National Lifeguard training emphasizes prevention and effective rescue response in emergencies including first aid treatment. Candidates develop teamwork, leadership and communication skills. Fitness requirements include a timed object recovery, 50m sprint challenge, 50m rescue drill and 400m endurance challenge.
Course option is not offered every session.
Take your professional certification to the next level by becoming a Lifesaving Society NL Instructor. An application form must be submitted to the Lifesaving Society and approval must be obtained prior to registering for this course. Recertifying? Be sure to present your current certification card to the instructor at the course. All First Aid and CPR certifications have a three year expiry date, although your employer may require you to recertify every year.
