Quick Facts - Direct Billing through Student Great West Life Benefits

  • Must activate plan at Student Benefit Office and on-line
  • Only direct bill for Chiropractor and Physiotherapy services
  • Must have a doctor’s referral for Physiotherapy
  • $400 plan per year starts September 1 through August 31 
     

Students Extended Benefit Coverage

If you are a full time student (minimum 9 credits), the Student Extended Health Benefit plan  provides coverage through Great West Life Insurance for the following services:

  • Chiropractic
  • Athletic Therapy
  • Massage Therapy
  • Physical Therapy
  • Orthotics

You will need a referral from a physician for the following services:

  • Massage Therapy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Athletic Therapy
  • Orthotics

You can book an appointment to see a doctor for a referral in Health Services 403.440.6326. Students do not need a referral for chiropractor services. 

Orthotics are also available to student with a doctor’s referral. Coverage is $150 per foot, per benefit year, provided they are not solely for athletic use.

With your student Health Benefit plan you will receive up to $25 back per visit to a maximum of $400 per year. Make sure to activate your student plan and pick up reimbursement forms at the Student Benefit Office in the basement of Wyckham House.  For more details see

Employee Extended Health Benefit Coverage and Health Spending Account (HSA)

The employee/faculty Extended Health Benefit plan provides excellent coverage and reimbursement through Sun Life Insurance. You can claim without a physician’s referral for the following services:

  • Massage Therapy
  • Chiropractic Therapy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Athletic Therapy
  • Acupuncture with a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
  • Energy Therapies

The maximum available in the Extended Health Benefit plan is $500 per year. This benefit re-news on January 1st and ends on December 30th each year.  Un-used benefits do not carry over into the next year.

Full coverage for orthotics is available with a doctor’s referral.  You can book an appointment to see a clinic doctor in Health Services 403.440.6326. 

You can also use your annual Health Care Spending Account for any of our services once your Extended Health Benefits have run out. Full time employees and faculty members are given $835 per year — this benefit re-news on July 1st and ends of June 30th each year. The amount of your HCSA account is pro-rated depending on your employment status (full-time/part-time).  Please contact Human Resources at 403.440.6584 for details.

General Public — Extended Health Benefit Coverage

If you are a member of the general public and you have Extended Health Benefits through your employer or a spouse, please check with your plan for specific coverage and reimbursement information. We do provide direct billing for patients with Alberta Blue Cross coverage for Chiropractic and Physical Therapy services.
