Bachelor of Applied Computer Information Systems & Business

What kinds of work term opportunities may be available?

As a Computer Information Systems student, you will likely work in Calgary, but positions within Alberta, in major centres across Canada, and even international opportunities are possible. It is expected that students should be prepared to temporarily relocate for Work Experience positions.

CIS students work in small- and medium-sized businesses, as well as large, multinational corporations in a cross-section of industries. As information technology needs are great within the nonprofit sector, many students are exposed to this area of the economy as well. Students enjoy a variety of opportunities including helpdesk/desktop support, user and network support, website design, database development and maintenance, hardware/software deployment and systems integration, and software testing.

What about expenses?

By starting to plan now, you can be financially prepared for your work terms. Expenses include:

  • Directed Field Studies course fees - see Mount Royal Calendar
  • Relocation expenses will be incurred by the student when completing a work term position in a town or city outside of Calgary. Planning for travel expenses to and from the work place location and paying rent on a different place to live for four months should be budgeted for.
  • Many work terms will require the use of a vehicle.
