Bachelor of Applied Business and Entrepreneurship - International Business

What kinds of work term opportunities may be available?

Students may be employed in a variety of work experience positions related to business with an international focus or component, such as market research, import and export, logistics, project or program coordination, international development, finance, recruitment, communications and public relations, and start-up ventures.

Position titles may include:

  • Business Analyst
  • Program or Project Coordinator
  • Export Development Assistant
  • Import Administrator
  • International Market Research Assistant
  • International Education Tour Assistant
  • Sales and Promotion
  • Supply Chain Assistant
  • Trade Commissioner Assistant
  • World Markets Analyst Assistant

In some cases the business focus may not be distinctly international, but the position will be in a foreign country and include business practices and/or languages different from Canada’s. In cases where a student intends to complete a work term outside of Canada, she or he is required to let the Work Experience Coordinator know as soon as possible, ideally two or more semesters in advance of the work term. Regardless of the student or employer’s level of preparedness there are institutional requirements that involve Career Services, International Education and other stakeholders. How do I prepare for my Directed Field Studies?

Directed Field Studies (DFS) Preparation - Professional Development Seminars

Professional Development (PD) is a required course of work experience preparation seminars. These seminars prepare students to:

  • Complete a skills self assessment
  • Understand and comply with workplace and employer expectations
  • Write competitive, professional resumes and cover letters
  • Develop job interview skills
  • Network with employers
  • Conduct self-marketing campaigns

PD is a mandatory element of DFS and accounts for 10% of the first DFS grade. Students are not eligible to go out on a DFS until they have successfully completed PD.

Students' skills and experience with work search are all different. The PD material and assignments are meant to assist students at all levels to achieve and/or maintain a competitive edge in DFS posting competitions. The PD sessions also provide students with valuable tools and resources that they can apply to their job search as they finish their degree and graduate.

Feedback received from DFS employers supports the necessity and value of student participation in Professional Development classes.

PD is offered once each academic year in the fall. Contact the Work Experience Coordinator for more information.
