Special Event Marketing Assistant(s)

Each year, two short-term contract positions are available for students to assist Career Services with event promotions and volunteer recruitment for our annual special events (Volunteer Recruitment Fair — October, and Career & Recruitment Fair — March). If you have skills in marketing and special event planning contact: Career Services for information about this opportunity.

Employer and Event Assistant(s)

Each year Career Services seeks students who are hardworking and can demonstrate a high energy level to assist employers on the day of Career & Recruitment Fair — March, and/or Volunteer Recruitment Fair — October.

Employer assistance includes: greeting employers and providing quality customer service with a professional attitude, providing directions to the event registration table and other on-campus locations, using trolleys assist employers to load, unload, and move their display materials to and from the employer loading zone and University, and general event set-up and clean-up duties.

Students must be current MRU students and available to assist 8 a.m. – 9:30 a.m., and/or 2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. on the day of the event(s).

Students will receive training, along with a gift certificate from the Mount Royal Bookstore compliments of Career Services. Contact Career Services to apply or for further information about this opportunity.

Academic Advising Services

New Student Orientation

Do you remember your first day at Mount Royal? Was it hectic having to deal with the busy line ups and searching for your classrooms? Consider helping other new students during their first day? First Year Insight is our new student orientation program for new students.

We are looking for outgoing current students with great communication skills to volunteer as leaders for both our September and January events. This is a great opportunity to make a difference, boost your confidence and develop leadership skills. Training will be provided, however previous knowledge of Mount Royal is an asset.

Mount Royal Future Student Alumni Network

The Mount Royal Future Alumni Network (FAN Club) is an active group of students working to strengthen the link between Mount Royal alumni and our student body and to develop our alumni of the future by promoting the notion of "students today, alumni forever".

By getting involved you'll learn the value of being an alumnus, help provide a tangible connection between students and alumni, collaborate across campus to enhance a sense of community at Mount Royal and promote its history and traditions through various initiatives.

Event Volunteers

Marketing and Communications offers diverse volunteer opportunities in areas throughout Mount Royal. Participate in exciting events like Pearls of Wisdom or Open House. Volunteer to be a part of the most celebrated day on campus – Convocation. Volunteers are always needed to fill a variety of roles in one off events like Speakers Series or ceremonies. Join in and gain hands-on event experience and meet your peers in a fun and social setting.

Mount Royal Recreation

Recreation Program Assistants

Mount Royal Recreation hires over 100 students and they are integral to components of our business and these areas include: marketing and communications, special events, fitness, aquatics, first aid, climbing wall and customer service. Mount Royal's Annual Fun Run

Residence Services

Resident Advisor

If you are an upper-year student currently living in residence, or are planning to live in residence you may want to consider applying to be a Resident Advisor (RA). RA's live within an assigned residence community and are responsible for approximately 30 residents. They plan events, supervise the community, and counsel and refer students academically and personally. They are trained in many areas, including first aid, conflict resolution, event planning, crisis management, and suicide intervention.

Residence Activities Council

If you are moving into residence you may want to get involved with the Residence Activities Council (RAC). This volunteer opportunity will introduce you to a team of students that spend the year planning residence wide events, such as formals, trips to Stampeders games, ball hockey tournaments and fund-raising initiatives. You will be provided with on-going leadership training that includes workshops on event planning, team dynamics, communication skills, etc. Many RAC members make the transition into the RA role in their second year in residence.

START Program

Computer Tutors
The START Program employs reliable students who are quick learners and have good interpersonal, communication, and computer application skills.  START Computer Tutors help MRU students overcome computer related issues that get in the way of completing course work.  Successful candidates are trained in customer service, Windows, Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe CS5, Blackboard, Google Applications, Mackintosh, i-Movie, Garage Band, email, wireless, printing, scanning, laptops, etc.  There are opportunities for growth and promotion at different locations on campus.  For those who excel, leadership opportunities exist in mentoring, training development, group teaching and as project leads.

AccessAbility Centre (AAC)
AAC volunteers provide information, resources and support for students with disabilities. Share experiences, develop programming and event planning experience, and help celebrate independence, equality and visibility of students with disabilities. Clubs
New clubs are formed every year to represent the changing interests of students, and can be everything from academics- and interest-based, to faith- and identity-based. Run for a position in an existing club, or start your own. The possibilities are endless.

General Faculties Council (GFC)
Develop professional meeting skills and experience, working with University professionals and representing students’ concerns on one of the most important decision-making bodies in the University where students have a voice. A small honorarium is available.

Native Student Centre (NSC)
NSC volunteers have an understanding of aboriginal cultures, and the needs and issues facing aboriginal students pursuing post-secondary education. Volunteers help to develop and deliver a wide range of programs and events, including a month long celebration of Native culture in the 21st century. All necessary training provided.

Peer Support Centre (PSC)
PSC volunteers help develop and deliver services that support students through the difficulties of university life. You'll learn the skills for effective peer counseling, referrals, program delivery, confidentiality and empathetic listening. It's an amazing chance to put your studies into practice.

Students' Councilors
Students’ Council is the governing body of the SAMRU. All credit students with a GPA of 2.0 or higher can be Students’ Councilors. Council meets twice a month (the commitment is roughly 10 hours per month during the school year, and is responsible for deciding the overall goals and direction of the SAMRU.

Student Outreach and Safewalk (SOS)
During the day, the SOS team provides tours of Wyckham House, information about SAMRU and MRU, fun giveaways and opportunities for students to talk back about what they need. In the evenings, the SOS team provides escorted safewalks up to 1.5 km from campus centre. SOS also runs a semi-weekly grocery shuttle service for residence students. All necessary training provided.
