Description: This position reports to the Technical Services Supervisor, the Technical Services Technician works in a team environment providing library technical services in cataloguing and acquisitions. This is a twenty month position with an unpaid inactive period from June 14 to August 15 yearly.
 
Duties: Acquisitions
• Processes orders for book and non-book materials
• Receives and approves receipt of materials from vendors/publishers
• Reconciles and processes invoices and statements for payment
• Creates, tracks and completes orders in the Acquisition module of the ILS
• Assists in other acquisition functions as required

Cataloguing
• Catalogues and classifies print and non-print materials in a variety of subject areas
• Knows and accurately applies national and international cataloguing standards
• Updates and edits bibliographic and holdings information in the catalogue as required
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Technical Services Supervisor
 
Qualifications: • Diploma in library and Information Technology
• Skilled in acquisition and cataloguing processes
• Proficiency in integrated library software (ILS)
• Thorough knowledge of MARC formatting
• Accurate and rapid data entry skills
• Skills in searching and online ordering procedures
• Proficiency in integrated office software
• Ability to work independently, and in a team environment
• Effective written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure, multitask and attend to detail
• Adaptability to changing circumstances and technologies
 
Salary: $1,814.92 semi-monthly
