Judy McMillan-Evans is an adult educator with over 25 years of experience in both classroom and on-line instructional design and delivery. She is so excited about the world of education that in 2013, she completed a Master’s in Education. She also holds certificates in both adult education and group facilitation from Mount Royal University.
Judy is the lead instructor and designer for MRU's Entrepreneurship program, a project she has led for 22 years. In 2006, Mount Royal University awarded Judy with their Distinguished Faculty/Teaching Award based upon her excellent student engagement and program results.
Judy is a generalist in the field of business, with over 40 years of business ownership. She loves to teach about entrepreneurship, business planning, human resource management, marketing, financial management and business operations. She is also a specialist in not-for-profit management and community economic development.
In everything she does, Judy offers fun, passion, experience, knowledge and creativity with a strong focus on quality education.
Emil Tarka is the founder and owner of Tarka Consulting Inc. He has close to 10 years of industry experience as a practicing manager and instructor. In his role as an instructor Emil has trained over 500 industry professional and aspiring project managers. Emil is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and has developed, adapted and applied project management techniques within a wide variety of industries including not-for-profit, education and health care.
Emil is a member of the Project Management Institute of Southern Alberta and specializes in tailoring project management techniques to suit the needs of a wide array of organizations. He is a project management instructor at Mount Royal University, University of Calgary, Medicine Hat College, Red Deer College as well as The Project Management Institute (PMI-SAC). Emil has as strong track record in providing project management consulting services to a wide variety of corporate clients including: Parkland Fuel Corporation, Alberta Workforce Essential Skills Society, ATCO Gas, Enbridge, LG Chemical, Agricultural Financial Services Corporation (AFSC), Blackjack Investments and Alberta Health and Wellness.
Emil holds an undergraduate degree in International Studies and earned his graduate degree in European Studies. Most recently he develops and carries out customized workshops and seminars to corporate clients and already existing PMP holders.
Rick has 15 years’ experience as a construction manager working in northern Canada and the U.S. He has over 15 years’ experience as a technical program manager and business performance consultant working with clients across Canada and the U.S. Rick’s professional strengths are in delivery management, business analytics and processes, workshop facilitation, communication improvement programs, risk management, and personal effectiveness programs.
With a focus on formal education and personal development Rick has served as Vice President of Professional Development with PMI® Southern Alberta Chapter and sat 2-terms on the MRU Project Management Advisory Committee.
Rick has instructed all sections of the Mount Royal University Project Management Extension Certificate Program (for both open classroom and corporate programs), marked the Final Assessments, and participated in curriculum development.
Rick possess a Bachelor of Science degree specializing in Construction Management and a Master of Science degree specializing in Project Management. He is a certified Adult Educator and is a Certified Professional Business Coach.
Claudia Verburgh is the Founder and Principal Consultant of Engaging Workplaces. She is a Certified Management Consultant and Certified Human Resources Professional with over 25 years of business experience. Over the years, she has specialized organization development and human resources, helping leaders to improve the people side of their businesses.
Claudia is passionate about building engaging workplaces by building better leaders and teams. Claudia has worked with leaders throughout her career, helping them to learn to lead for results and unlock the potential of their people. Her experience includes designing and delivering leadership development programs, creating and presenting interpersonal and communication skills workshops, facilitating leadership and team retreats, and providing one-on-one coaching and mentoring to leaders.
She has held senior leadership positions in business and volunteer organizations including KPMG, Winnifred Stewart Association and the Human Resources Institute of Alberta.
Claudia is an Independent Certified Trainer, Speaker and Coach with the John Maxwell team. In addition, Claudia is qualified/certified in a number of programs and assessment tools including (but not limited to) the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (Step I and Step II), DiSC, Extended DiSC, Personality Dimensions and True Colors. Claudia is also trained in Emotional Intelligence and is certified to administer the EQ-I 2.0 and EQ 360 assessment tools.
