Lamaze Accredited Childbirth Educator Seminar  NEW


Lamaze International is considered the gold standard of childbirth education providers and the Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator (LCCE) certification is the only childbirth educator program that has passed rigorous standards set by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).

This seminar will help you develop the knowledge and skills to build, deliver, and evaluate a childbirth education program for expectant parents.

 Lamaze Childbirth Educators are confident in teaching women and their families:

  • the fundamentals of Lamaze International's Six Health Birth Practices
  • how to use and adapt evidence-based best practice guidelines to their specific birth setting
  • to be informed consumers of the healthcare system in Canada

Seminar attendees typically include nurses, midwives, doulas, educators, physicians, physiotherapists and parents.

The Lamaze Learning Guide is not required for this course, however is recommended for people new to the field of childbirth. The Lamaze Learning Guide is required to write the certification examine, which is a separate process. Refer to the Lamaze International website for more information.   

  • Lamaze childbirth educators may work in a variety of urban and rural settings
  • Lamaze certification may be used to enhance current professional skills or establish a new childbirth educator career
  • This course consists of an online component (course pre-readings) and a three day in-class workshop (25 hours total)
  • The workshop is scheduled on Friday, Saturday and Sunday

Lisa Baker BSc BEd LCCE FACCE is a mother of two, Childbirth Educator, and Health Promotion Consultant in Calgary, Alberta. Lisa has been a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator since 2011 and inducted as a Fellow of the Academy of Certified Childbirth Educators in 2015. She is passionate about teaching a variety of classes within the fields of sexual and reproductive health, pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting. Lisa believes in the power of lifelong learning and is currently learning how to play piano, golf, and keep up with two spirited karate students!

Sharon is a busy mother for two children; an enterprising High School age daughter and a hockey-crazy son. She is enjoying watching them grow and mature. Life is good. Childbirth Education has, (along with a Maternity Nursing base), been a rewarding and vibrant career for Sharon. Sharon also has a rich history with Lamaze International, through her Lamaze Certified Educator career, working on various Lamaze projects and committees, and serving on the Board of Directors. She was also the President for Lamaze International in its 50th year (and the first Canadian President). Sharon believes in integrated, collaborative care for childbearing families and is fortunate to work in a very family-centered program in Alberta.
