Mount Royal University's Personal Fitness Trainer Diploma is a comprehensive program of 22 courses (1,060 hours), including 128 hours of lab time and 100 hours of practicum, that prepares you to work one-on-one with clients to provide safe and effective exercise programs. Train for a career in this growing field. Personal trainers work in fitness clubs, with sports teams, at wellness centres and in their own businesses to help clients reach health and fitness goals.

This innovative program is designed to respond to the competitive demands for well-trained and knowledgeable personal fitness trainers. The1060-hour program guides you through a combination of academic and technical courses as well as practical skill development. The program can be completed through full-time studies in 20 months over a minimum of two years and a maximum of six years.

This full-time program includes 15-25 hours of classroom instruction per week.

Entrance Requirements
Biology 30, Math 20 (pure or applied) and English 30/33 (or equivalent) are required. Chemistry 30 and Physical Education 30 (or equivalent) are strongly recommended. Due to the heavy workload during the program, it is strongly recommended that First Aid and CPR are completed prior to program commencement.

The 1060-hour Personal Fitness Trainer Diploma prepares students for careers as certified personal fitness trainers. Graduates are prepared for entry into professional practice possessing the ability to conduct physical fitness assessments and to design, implement and manage a variety of fitness programs and clientele. The curriculum was designed to meet the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology-Certified Personal Trainer (CSEP-CPT) national certification.
