Aubrey McPhail came to Mount Royal in 2001. His areas of teaching and research include composition, fiction, poetry, and American and British literature from 1700 to the present. His interests include literary theory, practical criticism, and the relationship between philosophy and fiction. He is also co-editor (with Craig McLuckie) of Ken Saro-Wiwa: Writer and Political Activist, and has published articles on Robert Bridges, Wole Soyinka, Mikhail Bakhtin, George Eliot, Herman Melville, and Arthur Nortje (with Kelly Hewson). A forthcoming publication focuses on Nathaniel Hawthorne.
