The discipline of Indigenous Studies offers students the opportunity to learn about the cultures and histories of Indigenous People in Canada and around the world. Introductory courses survey Indigenous history prior to the arrival of settler societies, the effects of colonialism, and recent efforts toward decolonisation. More advanced courses focus on specific themes, such as self-government, land rights, and Indigenous ways of knowing, within a comparative framework. These courses may be particularly helpful to students studying Arts, Criminal Justice, Education, Child Studies, and related fields. A Minor Program in Indigenous Studies is also being developed.
