Current Research Project: (De)Constructing H1N1 Pandemic in Alberta

This pilot study examines the messages embedded in health warnings and individuals’ understandings of and responses to health warnings messages during pandemic. Using the case of 2009 H1N1, I deconstruct 1) how individual subjects are constructed within the official and public health discourses of pandemic and 2) the individual subjects’ responses to such constructions. In other words, what are particular individuals told to do, how are they told to manage their risk for the pandemic, what responsibilities are allocated to them within such health promotion campaigns and how do people respond to such messages.
