Brant Downey's interests include sociological theory, qualitative methods, social movements, and the sociology of deviance. His dissertation titled "W. I. Thomas and the Sociology of Sex and Gender" is a biography of an early American theorist who did pioneering work on the status of women in society. In addition to putting the final touches on his dissertation, Brant is currently working on a book about theories of gender during the classical era of the social sciences. For the year of 2007-2008, Brant taught Introductory Sociology, as well as Classical Sociological Theory.
